Islamic jurisprudence details the requirements for witnesses during a deathbed bequest, known as *wasiyat*. Two trustworthy individuals must be present when a dying person expresses their will, with the bequest limited to one-third of their estate unless heirs consent. Witnesses should be from the deceased's family or community, known for their reliability. Provisions exist for situations where death occurs during travel, allowing witnesses from outside the family. After the death, witnesses are required to affirm the validity of the bequest under oath, declaring their honesty and lack of personal gain. If doubts arise about their integrity, alternative witnesses from those wronged by the initial witnesses are appointed to provide a second testimony. This system emphasizes truthfulness and accountability, and provides a balance of rights and responsibilities in matters of inheritance.
