The Quran Majid is broadly divided into Makki (Meccan) and Madani (Medinan) sections, with approximately two-thirds consisting of Makki Surahs and one-third of Madani Surahs. Makki Surahs primarily address the people of Arabia, emphasizing the concepts of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah), refuting Shirk (polytheism), and foundational Iman (faith). Madani Surahs, however, focus on the Muslim Ummah as a whole, addressing legal rulings, societal norms, and interactions with People of the Book. A key distinction lies in the style of address: Makki Surahs often use indirect speech, referencing the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, while Madani Surahs employ direct address to the Muslim community. The Makki Surahs also frequently recount the stories of past Messengers and nations, highlighting the consequences of rejecting divine guidance.
