Surah As-Saaffaat begins with a powerful declaration concerning the angels, describing them as ranks standing before Allah. These celestial beings are responsible for executing divine commands, including the destruction of communities and the delivery of remembrance to messengers. The opening verses emphasize the absolute oneness of Allah, the Lord of the heavens, the earth, and all that lies between them, and the Lord of the rising places. This concept of Tawhid (Divine Unity) forms a central theme, foreshadowing the later emphasis on the Day of Judgement. The Surah highlights Allah’s power in creation and warns against rejecting the inevitable accountability for one’s actions. The verses also touch upon the unique nature of Jinn, their creation from smokeless fire, and their attempts to eavesdrop on revelations, which are fiercely guarded by Allah, particularly during the descent of divine guidance to prophets. The Surah further emphasizes that the creation of humans from a clinging clot, and then from molded clay, is a testament to Allah’s power—a power that makes their resurrection entirely possible.
