Khilafat-e-Rashida: A Critical Analysis - Dr. Israr Ahmad
This lecture analyzes the concept of Khilafat-e-Rashida (Rightly Guided Caliphate), questioning the criteria for inclusion and examining the selection processes of the first four caliphs – Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali. It argues that the selection of Abu Bakr wasn’t a unanimous election but based on consultation and the Prophet’s indication. The speaker details how Umar was chosen through consultation by Abu Bakr, and Uthman and Ali were selected by a council. He clarifies that Ali’s acceptance of the caliphate was delayed due to the prevailing unrest following Uthman’s martyrdom and that Muawiyah’s rise was based on tribal power. The lecture also references the view of Imam Waliullah Dehlawi, who considers Ali a rightly guided caliph, but his era not part of the initial Khilafat-e-Rashida due to internal divisions within the Muslim community. The speaker emphasizes a distinction between the initial four caliphs and subsequent rulers.
