Pre-Islamic Arabs practiced forms of worship that mirrored some Islamic rituals. While distorted, practices resembling prayer (salat) existed, although expressed through clapping and whistling. The pilgrimage to the Kaaba (hajj) was also common, though the Quraish limited their participation to Mina instead of Arafat. Animal sacrifice (qurbani) was routinely performed, and the core phrases of the pilgrim’s chant (talbiyah) remained largely unchanged. Musab bin Umar, a young man raised in luxury, faced ostracism when he refused to renounce his faith after his father’s death. His mother, unable to defy her brother, the head of the family, was forced to comply with the uncle’s decree that Musab forfeit his inheritance and leave the house. The uncle, angered by Musab's adherence to his father’s religion, demanded he relinquish all property acquired through his father's wealth. Musab accepted the exile, even removing the clothes he wore, which were purchased with that wealth, before leaving his home. This demonstrates a powerful commitment to belief and principle.

This lecture discusses a crucial inner assessment. One side of a metaphorical scale holds love for eight worldly things: father, son, siblings, spouse, relatives, wealth, skills, and home. The other side holds love for God, the Prophet, and striving in His path. True faith requires that the latter outweigh the former. Until this balance is achieved, one remains susceptible to worldly desires and divine guidance is withheld. Every individual must establish this internal scale to evaluate their spiritual state and prioritize devotion over material attachments. It emphasizes the importance of sincere faith and prioritizing spiritual values to attain divine guidance and success.
