מִכְנָסַיִים קְצָרִים
Hazrat Ali (RA) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) foretold of a great tribulation (fitna). When asked about the means of salvation, the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated that the Quran is the source of guidance. It contains accounts of those who came before and those who will come after, and holds the solutions to all disputes and differences.
The Quraysh delegation arrived to Abu Talib during his final moments, issuing an ultimatum: control Muhammad or face open conflict. They didn’t seek wealth, power, or possessions, but demanded Muhammad cease his proclamation of One God. Abu Jahl immediately recognized the core issue – this message threatened the foundations of their entire belief system and the idols they worshipped. This bayān details the pivotal confrontation and the essence of the demand made against the Prophet Muhammad.
The lecture clarifies the meanings of Al-Hayy (The Ever-Living) and Al-Qayyum (The Sustainer). While 'Hayy' describes life applicable to all beings, 'Al-Hayy' specifically denotes Allah. Similarly, 'Qayyum' signifies one who establishes and maintains, but 'Al-Qayyum' is exclusive to Allah. Attributing 'Al-Qayyum' to anyone else is inappropriate. The discussion explains how using 'Abd Al-Hayy' and 'Abd Al-Qayyum' is acceptable as it acknowledges servitude to the Divine, while simply ‘Hayy’ or ‘Qayyum’ used as a name implies a claim of divine attribute.

True reward and reliance should be placed solely with Allah. Effort dedicated to the service of Islam is the only work for which one can expect a genuine and reliable recompense. A traveler in the desert loses his camel, carrying all his provisions and means of transport. After a desperate search, he encounters death itself. Overwhelmed with relief, he proclaims gratitude to God for this encounter, recognizing his own insignificance and God’s grace. This parable illustrates the immense joy God feels when a sinful servant repents, exceeding even the joy experienced by the traveler at finding ‘death’.
