The Quran’s resounding verses jolted people from their slumber and roused those lost in worldly pleasures. The verses of Surah Al-Asr emphasize humanity’s inherent loss and the impending accountability. The approaching Day of Judgement finds people heedless and turning away. These powerful pronouncements caused widespread upheaval and a sense of urgency throughout Arabia, compelling a reckoning with spiritual realities.
The Quran states that true believers possess an intense love for God. This love surpasses all other affections, even those for family. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized that complete faith is unattainable unless he is more beloved to a person than their father, son, or all of humanity. This love is not merely an emotion but is manifested through obedience. However, obedience becomes true worship only when performed with a sincere and passionate devotion to God, driven by the spirit of divine love. It is the inner feeling of love that transforms acts of worship into a meaningful connection with the Divine.
Hadrat Jaber ibn Abdullah states that a believer in God and the Day of Judgement should never be alone with a non-mahram woman. Any meeting should occur in the presence of a mahram (close male relative). This principle applies to both meetings and travel. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized that when a man and a non-mahram woman are alone, a third party – Shaytan – is present. Hadrat Ibn Abbas narrates a similar instruction: a man should not be alone with a woman unless a mahram accompanies her, and a woman should not travel without a mahram.
This lecture emphasizes the significance of fulfilling commitments within societal and Islamic frameworks. Agreements, whether formal contracts like employment or social contracts like marriage, establish mutual obligations and trust. The speaker highlights that upholding one's promise is a fundamental aspect of faith, as individuals will be held accountable by God for their commitments. Every agreement is witnessed by God, and failure to fulfill a promise is considered a serious matter. The lecture underscores that maintaining integrity and fulfilling promises is essential for a righteous life.
True well-wishing stems from sincerity and a genuine desire for another’s betterment. It requires approaching someone lost in ignorance or error with compassion, not arrogance or intellectual superiority. Effective guidance involves embodying the principles you preach; hypocrisy renders your message ineffective. Genuine concern means prioritizing the other person’s well-being and acting with consistency between words and deeds. Those who command good but fail to practice it themselves contradict their own message and discredit their efforts. True guidance requires internalizing the principles you advocate.
