It explains how the righteous will traverse this path to enter Paradise, witnessing the salvation granted by God, while the wrongdoers will fall from it due to their lack of divine guidance. The lecture emphasizes the immense value of God’s mercy and forgiveness for those who adopted a path of piety in this world. Those devoted to *taqwa* (piety) will be rescued, while the unjust will remain fallen. This path will be a test of faith and a demonstration of God’s justice.
The word ‘Sawm’ (fasting) fundamentally means to abstain or stop. This encompasses ceasing from eating and drinking, halting speech, or even pausing physical activity. The Quranic verse from Surah Maryam references a vow of abstinence. Historically, ‘Sawm’ in pre-Islamic Arabian society denoted refraining from desires, including sexual activity. It also described a horse standing perfectly still. The term was adopted by the Quran to define the act of fasting as a form of worship, signifying a complete cessation of bodily needs and worldly distractions. It’s a comprehensive cessation, not merely from food and drink, but from all impulsive desires and worldly engagements.
The natural progression of love shifts throughout life. Initially, a child's love is wholly focused on their parents due to dependence. As individuals mature, marry, and have children, the sphere of their affection expands, inevitably diminishing the exclusivity of parental love. Maintaining a strong connection with parents requires conscious effort and is considered a divine command. This lecture explains that prioritizing parental affection isn't automatic; it's a deliberate act of obedience to God’s will and a demonstration of gratitude for their sacrifices. It is a reminder to treat parents with kindness and respect, recognizing that fulfilling this obligation is not merely a natural impulse but a religious duty.
The advent of Muhammad ﷺ brought a complete transformation to all aspects of life. Existing beliefs, ideologies, individual personalities, and moral codes were fundamentally altered. Daily routines, social structures, political systems, and societal norms underwent a radical change. A nation previously characterized by widespread illiteracy became a beacon of knowledge and learning, becoming an educator for the world. It absorbed and developed sciences from both the East and West, disseminating them globally. This profound revolution dwarfs any other historical upheaval, including the French Revolution, in its scope and impact.
The Quran, as divine speech, reflects the complete personality of its speaker – Allah. The eloquence and depth of language reveal the speaker's knowledge, sophistication, and the heights of their thought. It is a complete representation of divine attributes, offering insight into Allah’s characteristics, wisdom, and the breadth of divine understanding. The very nature of speech embodies the speaker’s status, intellect, and the scope of their perception. Consequently, the Quran serves as a perfect manifestation of Allah’s complete personality and attributes.
The Quran’s true greatness lies in its being the expression of the Divine Speaker, revealing the entirety of God's attributes. Just as one can discern a person's intellect, understanding, and character from their speech, the Quran manifests all of God’s qualities. The text’s eloquence embodies complete divine attributes, making it a reflection of the Divine Being.
