The practice of *talaq* (divorce) in Islam is explained, specifically the revocable divorce known as *talaq al-mutlaq*. A husband has the right to divorce and reconcile twice, but a third pronouncement of divorce is final, preventing immediate reconciliation. The Quran outlines two possible paths following a final divorce: either maintaining the wife with kindness and without hardship, or allowing her to depart honorably. Financial obligations to the divorced wife must be fulfilled; the husband cannot reclaim any gifts or *mahr* previously given, except if the wife initiates the divorce and offers to return a portion of it. The Quran also addresses situations where couples fear they cannot uphold the boundaries set by Allah, permitting a divorce with financial compensation, and outlines the conditions for potential reconciliation after a subsequent marriage.
