076-AL-BAQARAH (Ayat 234-237)
Islamic law details specific waiting periods, known as 'iddah, for both divorced and widowed women. For a divorced woman, this period is three menstrual cycles. A widow observes a waiting period of four months and ten days before remarriage. During this time, intimacy is prohibited, but communication through permissible means is allowed. The Quran emphasizes ethical conduct, encouraging believers to avoid making promises of marriage during the iddah, and to maintain modesty in their interactions. Furthermore, it addresses the situation of women who were betrothed but not yet married, allowing for their release with compensation, depending on whether marital relations occurred. The text also highlights the importance of fulfilling obligations, particularly the mahr (dower), and encourages generosity in its payment. Allah is aware of all intentions and actions, and rewards kindness and forgiveness.
