530 - AL-AHZAB (Pasmanzar)
The Battle of the Trench, which occurred in 5 AH, was a significant event in early Islamic history. Following their expulsion from Medina, the Banu Nadir tribe sought to avenge themselves and incite conflict with the Muslims. They allied with the Quraysh and other Arab tribes, forming a formidable coalition of around ten thousand soldiers. This large army marched towards Medina with the intention of eliminating the Muslim community. Upon learning of the impending attack, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) consulted with his companions. Salman al-Farsi suggested a defensive tactic common in Persia: digging a trench around Medina to protect the city from cavalry attacks. This innovative strategy proved effective, hindering the enemy's advance. The siege lasted for several weeks, marked by hardship and scarcity for the Muslims. During this challenging time, tensions also arose with the Banu Quraiza, a Jewish tribe residing in Medina, who were suspected of conspiring with the enemy. Na'im bin Masud, a skilled diplomat, played a crucial role in sowing discord among the opposing forces, weakening their unity. Ultimately, a fierce windstorm dispersed the enemy army, bringing the siege to an end without a major battle, demonstrating Allah's support for the believers.
