The concept of *uswa hasana* (excellent example) is central to understanding the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). While often associated with minor practices, its true essence lies in his unwavering dedication to faith amidst hardship. This includes enduring extreme poverty, exemplified by instances where he and his companions bound stones to their stomachs to alleviate hunger. More profoundly, it encompasses a willingness to sacrifice everything for the sake of faith, facing adversity with courage and resilience. The Prophet’s life wasn’t one of ease; he consistently engaged in the struggle to establish and uphold religious principles, foregoing worldly possessions and comfort. This dedication represents a ‘macro sunnah’ – a comprehensive commitment to divine purpose – exceeding mere ritualistic observance. True adherence requires embodying this spirit, prioritizing devotion to Allah, having hope for the afterlife, and consistent remembrance of Allah. This example is complete, but its benefits are reserved for those who possess faith, love for Allah, and certainty in the Day of Judgment. The Battle of the Trenches and subsequent events with Banu Qurayza demonstrate this, as well as a willingness to accept Allah's decree.
