The cessation of consciousness is a fundamental aspect of death, differing significantly from the state of sleep. While sleep involves a temporary suspension of awareness, death entails the complete loss of both consciousness and life. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala takes souls at the time of death, or during sleep, returning the latter to wakefulness. This distinction highlights the unique completeness of death, exemplified by the fate of Prophet Isa (peace be upon him). The Quran emphasizes that ultimate control over life and death resides solely with Allah. The verses discuss the questioning on the Day of Judgment, highlighting that while individuals may seek intercessors, true intercession lies with Allah, by His permission. The verses further underscore the sovereignty of Allah over the heavens and the earth, and the inevitable return of all to Him. Those who reject the afterlife experience anxiety upon the mention of Allah, while those who believe find solace. The text also cautions against attributing success solely to one's own intellect, reminding that true provision comes from Allah and is a test of faith, as demonstrated by the story of Qarun.
