The Quran details the deceptive behavior of the Munafiqun, or hypocrites, during the early days of Islam. These individuals outwardly professed faith while harboring disbelief and actively plotting against the Muslim community. They attempted to appease both the believers and the disbelievers, making false promises of support should the Muslims be expelled from Madinah. The text highlights their insincerity, revealing that they would not genuinely assist the Muslims in times of conflict, and would readily betray them when faced with adversity. Their true allegiance lay with their former associates among the People of the Book who rejected Islam. This duplicity extended to assurances of non-aggression, coupled with a declaration that they would never reveal information about the Muslims. The Quran emphasizes that their claims were false, and their hearts were filled with deceit. It points to a lack of genuine faith and courage as the root cause of their hypocrisy, contrasting their empty promises with the steadfast commitment of true believers. Furthermore, the text exposes the deep-seated divisions within the hypocritical community, demonstrating their inability to unite or act with sincerity.
