The concept of divine remembrance (dhikr) and its impact on the human self is a central theme in Islamic thought. Neglecting the remembrance of Allah leads to self-forgetfulness, a state where individuals become disconnected from their spiritual essence and solely focused on their material existence. This detachment results in a loss of awareness regarding one's ultimate purpose and accountability before God. Surah Al-Hashr, particularly verses discussing Taqwa (God-consciousness), emphasizes the importance of preparing for the afterlife and recognizing that all possessions are ultimately entrusted by Allah. Iqbal's philosophy of Khudi (selfhood) draws from this concept, highlighting the need for a balanced self-awareness rooted in divine connection. The Quran warns against becoming like those who forgot Allah, resulting in a spiritual decline and a focus on worldly desires. This spiritual amnesia is likened to a state of being oblivious to one's own soul and potential, reducing humans to mere animalistic beings driven by instinct.
