Islam has devolved from a complete way of life (deen) into merely a set of rituals and beliefs (mazhab). Deen encompasses faith, worship, rituals, a political system, a social system, and an economic system, providing a holistic framework for life. Mazhab, in contrast, focuses on individual beliefs, rituals surrounding birth, marriage, and death, and social customs. The lecture argues that contemporary Islam primarily functions as a mazhab, lacking the comprehensive societal structure inherent in the original concept of deen.
