Islam permits personal and commercial ownership, including means of production like shops, farms, and factories. It encourages work, competition, and wealth creation, subject to Zakat obligations to support the needy. The system allows for employer-employee relationships based on performance. However, Islam strictly prohibits interest (riba), exploitation of base instincts through advertising, and the use of intoxicants like drugs and alcohol. These prohibitions define the boundaries within which a capitalist system can operate within an Islamic framework. The Islamic state guarantees basic necessities for all citizens.
