Islam does not endorse the concept of dowry. Both male and female heirs are entitled to inheritance, as outlined in the Quran, regardless of the amount. Historically, Hindu tradition lacked inheritance rights for women, leading to the practice of *dahej* (dowry) at the time of marriage. Giving gifts to a bride is permissible, but presenting them as a condition or expectation is considered undesirable and adds to societal problems. Correcting these issues requires adherence to Islamic principles and a rejection of harmful customs.
