A strong family system relies on mutual sexual exclusivity between spouses. Extramarital attraction, even in thought or dreams, weakens the bond of love. Historically, Islamic tradition emphasized the protection and seclusion of women – referred to as ‘musturat’ – through adherence to modesty and veiling practices. This seclusion, termed ‘qila’a’ (fortress) in Arabic, aimed to prevent sexual impropriety and preserve marital fidelity. The woman within this protected space is referred to as ‘muhsina’.
