This lecture clarifies the distinctions and relationships between the *nafs* (self), *qalb* (heart), and *rooh* (spirit). It identifies two forms of intellect: animal intellect, centered in the brain, and spiritual intellect, linked to the heart. The *nafs* represents the animalistic aspects, while the *rooh* embodies higher aspirations. The heart serves as a mediating force between these two. The heart is in constant flux, its direction toward the *nafs* leading to destruction, while alignment with the *rooh* fosters inner peace. Unlike other organs that rest, the heart is perpetually active, and its state directly impacts one’s spiritual well-being.
