Quran ki Tadween - History of Quran Compilation
This lecture details the compilation of the Quran. It explains that while the Quran was revealed over time, it existed initially in the memories of the Sahaba and on various materials like animal bones and cloth. The lecture outlines the three stages of its compilation: during the Prophet Muhammad’s life, during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, and its final form. It clarifies that the Quran wasn't initially a written book but a recitation memorized and passed down. The impetus for creating a single, compiled volume came after the Battle of Yamama, when many hafiz (those who had memorized the Quran) were martyred. Abu Bakr, upon the insistence of Umar, commissioned Zaid ibn Thabit and a committee to collect the Quran from various sources and compile it into a single book.
