This lecture clarifies the distinction between *shirk* (associating partners with God) and ordinary sin. While all sins, fundamentally, stem from disobedience, *shirk* represents a more severe transgression. The key difference lies in intentionality. Deliberate, planned acts of disobedience constitute *shirk*, whereas sins committed impulsively, driven by momentary emotions, are considered lesser offenses. Both are forgivable through repentance, but repentance from *shirk* is particularly emphasized. God’s mercy extends to all who sincerely seek forgiveness, but the nature of *shirk* requires a deeper level of remorse and turning away from such association.
