Many misconceptions exist regarding remembrance of Allah. A primary error is conflating *zikr* itself with the *means* of remembrance. *Zikr* is the presence of Allah in the heart – maintaining awareness, love, and connection with Him. Reciting phrases like “Subhan Allah” is a *means* to *zikr*, but not *zikr* itself. If one’s mind is preoccupied with worldly problems while reciting, the *means* is employed, but the true *zikr* – the presence of Allah in the heart – is not achieved. Similarly, prayer is a *means* to *zikr*; the ultimate goal is the presence of Allah within the heart.

The observance of fasting on the 9th and 10th of Muharram is a recommended practice, not obligatory. This practice originated when the Prophet Muhammad learned that the Jews of Medina fasted on the 10th of Muharram to commemorate their deliverance from Pharaoh. The Prophet stated that the Muslims have a greater right to Moses than the Jews, and thus instructed his companions to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram instead, to differentiate their practice. This was done even before Ramadan fasting was made obligatory. The intention was to establish a distinct practice, fasting for two days instead of one.

During the days of Hajj, the Prophet Muhammad encountered six individuals from the Khazraj tribe. These men had heard rumors from Jewish communities that the final prophet would appear among them and that they would ultimately defeat their enemies. They had consistently lost conflicts with Jewish communities. When invited to Islam by the Prophet, they recognized the fulfillment of these prophecies and immediately accepted the faith, fearing being left behind when the Jews converted. This event demonstrates the power of divine guidance and the swift acceptance of truth by those destined to believe.

Taghut refers to anything that transgresses the boundaries of worship and obedience to God. It originates from ‘tagha’, meaning to exceed limits. When something, be it an individual, institution, or state, oversteps the bounds of devotion intended solely for God, it becomes Taghut. This lecture defines Taghut as any entity that demands allegiance and submission outside of God’s commands. It emphasizes that the essence of worship is submission within defined limits, and exceeding these limits constitutes an act of Taghut. The concept extends beyond individuals to encompass systems and ideologies that usurp divine authority and demand absolute obedience, leading to a deviation from true worship.
