The failure of these movements stems from a focus on the structure of Islam rather than the core of faith. Islam is a building founded upon the bedrock of *iman* (faith); without a strong foundation of faith, these movements cannot succeed. Furthermore, the methodologies employed were borrowed from flawed ideologies – bureaucracy, communism, socialism, fascism, and guerilla warfare – instead of the prophetic model of Muhammad (peace be upon him). These two errors led to the ultimate failure of these movements.

A primary error is conflating *zikr* (remembrance) with the *means* of remembrance. *Zikr* is the presence of God within the heart – maintaining a connection through remembrance, love, and attachment. Simply repeating phrases like “Subhan Allah” is a *means* of remembrance, but not *zikr* itself. True *zikr* requires focused attention and presence; if the mind is preoccupied with worldly concerns while reciting, the benefit of remembrance is lost. The act itself is a tool; the connection with God is the essence.

Ambient interest exists in the air we breathe and the food we consume, which is considered a general impurity and doesn’t necessarily invalidate a transaction. Direct involvement, such as taking loans with interest to build homes or businesses, or depositing money to earn interest, is unequivocally forbidden. However, unintentional mistakes are forgivable, as God is Merciful and Pardoning. Focusing on acquiring halal income and avoiding strictly prohibited actions is paramount.
