Many misconceptions exist regarding remembrance of God. A primary error is conflating *zikr* (remembrance) with the *means* of remembrance. *Zikr* is the presence of God within the heart – maintaining a connection through remembrance, love, and attachment. Simply repeating phrases like “Subhan Allah” is a *means* of remembrance, but not *zikr* itself. True *zikr* requires focused attention and presence; if the mind is preoccupied with worldly concerns while reciting, the benefit of remembrance is lost. The act itself is a tool; the connection with God is the essence.
This lecture explains that accountability in the hereafter is based on inherent human faculties: intellect, discernment, the capacity for good and evil, divine knowledge within the soul, and the love of God. Even those who never received a prophetic message will be judged based on these innate qualities. God has provided humanity with the tools for moral reasoning and spiritual awakening, and this internal guidance forms the basis of divine judgment. The sending of prophets and scriptures served to complete the argument and provide clear guidance, making the test of life easier. The soul possesses inherent knowledge of and love for God, which is awakened by divine revelation.

The lecture details the miracles of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), focusing on the well-known miracles of his staff and the white hand. It further elaborates on seven additional miracles mentioned in the Quran, revealed to Pharaoh and his people. These include the splitting of the sea with his staff, the creation of twelve springs from a rock, the descent of manna and quail, and the provision of shade with clouds in the desert, offering protection where no shade existed.
The soul is the center of our existence, distinct from the body. While the body originates from the earth, remains for a time, and ultimately returns to it, the soul is eternal and originates from, and returns to, God. Death involves the separation of the soul from the body; the soul itself does not die but transitions. The act of ‘ قبض’ (taking/receiving) relates to the body, not the soul. The soul’s journey is one of return to its divine source, a concept encapsulated in the phrase ‘Inna lillahi wa ilayhi raji’un.’
Life is a continuous test of both human nature and intellect. Recognizing God is the initial trial, followed by steadfastness in obedience. True belief necessitates complete adherence to divine commands and abstinence from prohibitions, even in the face of adversity. This principle of unwavering commitment has been a constant throughout history, exemplified by the trials faced by prophets like Ibrahim. God consistently tests those who come before us, and remembering these trials offers guidance and strength.
