The Madani Surahs, comprising the largest continuous group of chapters in the Quran based on numerical count, begin with Surah Al-Hadid and extend to Surah Al-Hashr. These Surahs, numbering ten, are significant for their focus on the challenges faced by the early Muslim community in Medina. While relatively short in volume (less than six paras), they collectively address themes of jihad, sacrifice, and the importance of sincere faith. Five of these Surahs commence with the glorification of Allah (Tasbih), highlighting the constant praise of God throughout creation. A key characteristic is the emphasis on strengthening iman (faith) and addressing the hypocrisy that emerged among some Muslims. These Surahs, revealed primarily in the latter half of the Prophet’s Medina period, offer guidance on maintaining devotion, giving in charity, and upholding the principles of Islam amidst adversity. The context reveals a decrease in initial zeal for jihad and a need to rekindle the spirit of sacrifice within the community, as well as a detailed exploration of the nature and manifestations of hypocrisy, especially in Surah Al-Munafiqun.
