Surah As-Saff, a Madani Surah revealed after the migration to Medina, begins with the glorification of Allah by all beings in the heavens and the earth. This chapter emphasizes the concept of divine justice and Allah’s absolute power and wisdom. It draws a parallel between Surah Al-Jumu’ah, both initiating with praise and highlighting a shared theme. The Surah addresses the hypocrisy within the Muslim community, particularly among those who claimed faith but failed to uphold justice. It references a historical struggle for justice, drawing parallels to revolutions – noting that true justice requires more than just rebellion; it necessitates ideological foundation, organization, and training. The Quran emphasizes that messengers were sent with clear proofs, books, and the measure of justice to establish equity. However, people often deviated into idol worship and ascribed partners to Allah. The Surah underscores the role of the final messenger, Muhammad, who brought a complete system of justice and the willingness to use force to abolish injustice, while also outlining the rewards for those who embrace the message and the consequences for those who reject it.
