During the time of Lord Wellington, the British government offered Allama Iqbal a governorship in South Africa, with the condition that Begum Iqbal accompany him to all official events. Iqbal declined, stating that while he may be a flawed Muslim, he would not compromise his wife's modesty for a government position. Iqbal lamented that Muslims often treat the Quran merely as a ritualistic recitation, devoid of understanding and application. He observes that its use is frequently limited to hastening the passing of a dying person with Surah Yaseen. While acknowledging the importance of reading the Quran, Iqbal stresses its primary purpose is to serve as a comprehensive guide for life. He criticizes the lack of focus on implementing its principles and benefiting from its wisdom, reducing a profound source of guidance to a superficial practice. The core message is that the Quran’s potential remains untapped due to a lack of genuine engagement and a failure to integrate its teachings into daily life.
This lecture clarifies whether good deeds remain valid despite the presence of evil actions, or if evil deeds nullify the effect of good deeds. It asserts that evil actions definitively diminish or invalidate the benefits of good deeds, rendering them ineffective. Committing grave sins, such as denying the Quran or the Prophet Muhammad, can completely negate all accumulated good deeds.
